I hope you are ready to hold on tight to all of your blue scraps and surf the ocean waves of half-square triangles (HST) with me!
All you need is our Kelley quilt pattern (also available as a downloadable PDF), 1.5″ HST paper, fabrics, and a few of your favorite quilting tools.
Edyta’s Note: If you prefer to use larger HSTs, use our Sea Breeze pattern and our 2″ HST paper pad.
If you do not have your own scraps, I recommend Winter Blues, Winter Lights, and 8515-L or A-9556-L for background. These fabrics will be a perfect “splash” of colors.
Edyta’s Note: LBQ Triangle paper size is shown on its cover as finished HST size.
Select and press one light and one blue 10″ square. Place them right sides together with the light fabric on the top. Position your triangle paper and pin in place. Sew on the dotted lines.
Cut on solid lines then press and peel the paper from your HST.
Cut the remaining rectangles and squares, following your Kelley pattern, from a light background fabric.
Lay out all of your block pieces.
Assemble triangles and background pieces into rows.
Sew and press your rows together.
Keep splashing in your ocean waves of HST and in no time you will have enough blocks to make your entire quilt. If you need extra help, please visit our YouTube Channel for tips and tricks.
Enjoy the calm of the ocean tides as you cuddle up with your beautifully finished Kelley quilt.
Happy Quilting! Edyta
