Super Bloom – Block 9

Welcome back to our Super Bloom Block of the Month!

You made it, this is the final block for our Super Bloom quilt!

Block 9 — a truly beautiful block. I definitely could use this one to make an entire quilt and I think I am going to do this one in blue for a winter quilt!

Gather your Super Bloom pattern, laser-cut fabrics (or your Super Bloom bundle if you’ve been cutting your own pieces), a rotary, ruler, seam press, Aurifil thread 2310, pins and let us begin!

Create a 4-patch using two blue squares and two light squares.

Sew the blue squares to the light ones and push seams towards the blue.

Now sew the 2 units together and press.

Take note: When you press these units, open the seam allowances in the back to create a little patch. This will let the center lay nice and flat. Repeat 3 more times and set them aside.

To create your Flying Geese units, arrange four small quarter-square triangles (2 pink and 2 blue QSTs) and one light QST.

Begin by sewing the pink QSTs to the blue QSTs and press seam allowances towards the blue fabric.

Then pin and sew the right side, pushing the seam allowance towards the light QST.

Next, pin and sew left side, again pushing the seam allowance towards the light QST.

Trim using your favorite Creative Grids ruler and rotary. Repeat 3 times to create four identical Flying Geese units and put to the side.

Edyta’s Tip: Pinning is important to get wonderful results.

Arrange 2 light QSTs and 2 pink QSTs as shown above.

Pin and sew the QSTs with pink on the bottom and light on top. Press seams towards pink.

Edyta’s Tip: Use the chain sewing technique to assemble these pieces.

Pin and sew together to create a QST unit.

Press and open the center seams. Repeat 3 more times.

Arrange the QST units with the 5 fabric squares as shown above.

Sew into rows.

Sew rows together and press.

Now arrange all remaining units around the finished center to complete block 9. Sew, press, and your block is complete!

From here, continue following the pattern to combine all of your blocks.

Super Bloom – Block 8

Welcome back to our Super Bloom Block of the Month!

Isn’t it crazy how time flies when you’re having fun? We only one more month to go!

Grab yourself a delicious coffee, you’ve earned it, and let’s begin this equally-as-delicious block!

For Block 8, you’re going to need your Super Bloom Pattern, your laser-cut Block 8 package (or your Super Bloom bundle if you’ve been cutting your own pieces), a rotary, ruler, seam press, and pins.

Create a 4-patch using one blue square, one red square, and two light squares.

Sew the red square to a light square. Sew the blue square to a light square. Next push the seams towards the color squares.

Now sew the 2 units together and press. Repeat 3 more times to make four 4-patch and set aside.

Next, make one half-square triangle (HST) unit by joining one light and one blue HST.

Pin and sew.

Press seam allowance towards blue, clip bunny ears, and trim. Repeat 7 more times for a total of eight HST units.

Arrange a 4-patch square unit, two HST units, and a large square like above.

Pin and sew into rows.

Sew rows together. Repeat 3 more times for all four sets and put to the side.

To form your Flying Geese units arrange two small, light HSTs and one pink quarter-square triangle (QST).

Sew the left side and push seam allowance towards the pink QST. Pin and sew the right side, this time pushing seam allowance towards the HST.

Trim using your favorite Creative Grids ruler and rotary. Repeat 3 times to create four identical Flying Geese units and put to the side. Edyta’s Tip: The Bloc-Loc Flying Geese Ruler works great here!

Repeat the same steps for another set of 4 Flying Geese units, but this time use two small, pink HSTs and one light QST.

Sew left side and push seam allowance towards the light QST. Pin and sew right side, but this time push seam allowance towards the HST.

Trim your unit using a ruler and rotary. Repeat 3 times to create four identical Flying Geese units.

Now combine your Flying Geese units into 4 sets.

Pin and sew each set. Push seam allowance towards the QST unit. Repeat until you have done all 4.

Lay out all of your pieces to form the full block.

Sew units into rows.

Sew rows together and press to complete Block 8.

It’s almost time for your to reap your rewards from this year’s quilting harvest. As December quickly approaches and all the the family-filled holidays begin, don’t forget to set aside some time for yourself. Super Bloom – Block 7

Welcome back to our Super Bloom Block of the Month!

It’s so amazing that we get to gather together even though we’re all spread so far apart. I am so thankful for your friendship and being able to quilt with you.

When I try to find some peace, quiet, and balance, I always look to quilting. For some reason, it gives me exactly what I need – are you just like me?

I cannot believe we’re already on Block 7!

To get started, grab your Super Bloom Pattern and laser-cut Block 7 package or your Super Bloom bundle if you’ve been cutting your own pieces.

Begin by making 4-patches from two blue squares and two light squares.

After sewing the blue squares to the light squares, push your seam allowances towards the blue.

Then sew units together and press. Repeat 3 more times to make four 4-patches.

Next, make one half-square triangle (HST) unit by joining one light and one red HST.

Sew and press. Push the seam allowance towards red, then clip the bunny ears and trim.

Join one red HST unit to 2 light HSTs. Push the seam allowance towards the HST triangles…

…and then add one large pink HST.

Push the seam allowance towards the pink, then using your favorite Creative Grids Ruler and rotary, trim and square the unit.

Repeat to make 8 triangle units.

For the center of this block, arrange four small, dark blue squares and four light rectangles around one big, light blue square.

Sew into three rows.

Then sew the rows together and square your center block using the ruler and rotary.

Finally, lay out all of your units starting with 4-patches for each corner, 8 triangle units for the sides, and center block in the middle.

Sew into three rows, sew the rows together, and press.

This block is going to be sew beautiful in the quilt!
