Thank you for stopping by, I am so happy to quilt with you again, let’s jump right into making our Super Bloom – Block 2!
If you’re cutting you fabrics, please follow cutting directions from your Super Bloom Pattern. If you have one of our Pre-Cut kits you’re ready set go!
I love opening the pre-cut pieces, they are so easy to work with and really speed the process up!
Start by joining two pink QST and two light QST to make a Quarter Square Triangle (QST) Unit 1.
I use the “chain sewing” technique to sew all triangles for the block. I keep the pink fabrics on the bottom and the light fabric on top when making these QST Units. Note: I use a scant 1/4″ seam allowance when sewing my QSTs, this will allow me to trim them later if needed.
Cut the treads holding the string of triangles together, open triangles, and press your seam allowance toward the pink. Be careful not to stretch the bias edge when pressing.
I like to use my hand seam pressing tool for this step.
Take two units and arrange them as shown above.
Place them right sides together, nest the center seam and pin.
Sew triangle units together, again using a scant 1/4″ seam allowance.
Gently open seam allowance on center back, press and trim using your ruler to a 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ square if necessary.
Join two pink QST, one light QST, and one blue QST to make QST Unit 2
Press and Trim your QST Unit 2.
Arrange 4 light squares, 1 blue square, and 4 QST units, (2 QST Unit 1, 2 QST Unit 2) as shown.
Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Ohio Star Unit A. Repeat steps to make 2 Units.
I love using my 6-1/2″ Creative Grids ruler and OLFA Spinning Mat to trim these blocks if necessary.
Arrange 3 light squares, 1 red square, 1 blue square, and 4 QST units (2 QST Unit 1, 2 QST Unit 2) as shown.
Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Ohio Star Unit 2. Repeat steps to make 2 Units.
Those little Ohio Star Units are so cute, time to put them together!
Arrange your 4 Ohio Star Units as shown above. Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Super Bloom Block 2. Finally square your block to 12-1/2″ x 12-1/2″.
