Birthday Quilt 2024 - Quilt Assembly

I know that you have been SEW excited all year long to see how you can put your blocks into a beautiful birthday quilt, and I won't make you wait any longer!

There are a few more surprises that we have for you, so keep watching for the last few birthday blocks. We will be posting recipes on our blog until the end of the year!

By the end of this year, you should have 58 blocks (that includes 52 blocks plus, 6 bonus blocks). I had so much fun working with you every week on a new and exciting block!

It is almost time to kick back and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

I am sew thankful to all of you that joined me on this Birthday Quilt Along.

Below is a variety of layouts with basic cutting and basic fabric requirements

for your beautiful 6" blocks.

Quilt Layout Option 1

Below is a grid version of option 1- feel free to place the blocks in whatever

order you see fit or follow my quilt below!

Also notice for extra little something, I shaded the sashing from outside to the inside of the quilt to add an extra glow to the center of the layout.

And you know me, I LOVE appliqué, so I am including 4 bonus blocks with appliqué on them. If you like piecing better, this is the perfect time to choose your favorite 4 blocks from the birthday blocks and included them!

To make this stunning design, you will need:

61 Birthday Blocks

44 dark sashing strips 6½" x 1½" (1/2 yard)

36 medium sashing strips 6½" x 1½" (1/3 yard)

28 medium/light sashing strips 6½" x 1½" (1/3 yard)

36 light sashing strips 6½" x 1½" (1/3 yard)

24 dark corner stone squares 1½" (1/8 yard)

16 medium corner stone squares 1½" (1/8 yard)

44 light corner stone squares 1½" (1/4 yard)

4-setting HSTs cut from 2 squares 6½"

20-setting QSTs cut from 5 squares 11" (1 yard total )

2-side border strips 4" x 61½" from fabric A-725-LB

2- top/bottom border strips 4" x 68½" from fabric A-725-LB

(For border if piecing you will need 1 yard, if using 1 solid strip, you will need 2 yards.)

Quilt Size: 68½" x 68½"

Or another great fabric option for your border is our pre-printed North Star panel in blue, A-1109-LB or red A-1109-LR to really make your quilt top to shine!

Quilt Size: 68½" x 68½"

Quilt Layout Option 2

If you aren't a fan of blocks on point, that's okay,

we've got another beautiful option just for you!

To make this stunning design, you will need:

56 Birthday Blocks

(In this layout, I have not included a bonus appliqué block)

49 light blue sashing strips 2½" x 6½" (2/3 yard)

8-sashing strips 4" x 62½" from fabric A-1109-LB (2 yards)

2- top/bottom border strips 5½" x 70½" from fabric A-725-LB

If you are piecing and positioning your border panel vertical, you will need 1 yard.

If no piecing and positioning your border horizontal, you will need 2 yards.

Feel free to place the blocks in whatever order you see fit or follow my quilt below!

Quilt Size: 70½" x 72½"

Table Runner Option

Another really fun option is making some of your blocks into a table runner!

Quilt Size: 12" x 61"

Maybe you didn't get a chance to build all of the birthday blocks, or maybe you made extras! Either way, a table runner is the perfect way to enjoy and show off your hard work.

To make this fun design, you will need:

6 Birthday Blocks

24 dark sashing strips 6½" x 1½" (1/4 yard)

19 light sashing squares 1½" (1/8 yard)

4-light HSTs cut from 2 squares 6½"

10-light QSTs cut from 3 squares 11" (1/2 yard total)

2- top/bottom border strips 4" x 61½" (1/2 yard)

Quilt Size: 12" x 61"
