Updated: Jul 21, 2022

Welcome to Block 8 of our Mystery Quilt 2022!

What a beautiful day! I got to see some beautiful new blooms.

Below is all the information you need to prepare before joining

For Block 8, you will need:

1 blue fabric

1 light blue fabric

1 light fabric

Block 8

We will be making 16 total Block 8s.

Cutting Directions:

Begin by cutting strips:

Blue fabric - 2 strips 2" x 20" and 1 strip 2" x 10"

Light fabric - 4 strips 2" x 20" and 1 strip 2" x 10"

Light blue fabric - 4 strips 2" x 20" and 1 strip 2" x 10"

Light blue fabric - 2 strips 2½" x 20"

Arrange 2" strips to prepare to sew strip panels.

You will need 2½ strip panels from each color option as shown above.

Set your 2½" light blue strips to the side for cutting later.

Sew strips together. Press seam one direction.

Trim the edge following 45 degrees on the ruler.

Align your ruler as shown above. Measure 2" in width of the cut.

Cut using your rotary. Shift your ruler, measure again, and cut.

Out of 1 panel, you should be able to get 7 units.

Cut 2½ panels for a total of 16 units.

Now align your ruler on the second strip panel,

and repeat the steps above to cut 16 units.

Align your ruler on 2½" light blue strip and cut.

Cut strips for a total of 16 light blue pieces.

Alternative way of cutting with the Mystery Template F, E and D:

Align your Template D as shown above.

Cut using your rotary. Shift your Template D, measure again, and cut.

Out of 1 panel, you should be able to get 7 units.

Cut 2½ panels for a total of 16 units.

If you would like, you can also use your template to trim the bottom of the templates.

You can also trim them all together in the end after piecing all units together.

Now align your Template E on the second strip panel,

and repeat the steps above to cut 16 units.

If you would like, you can also use your template to trim the bottom of the templates.

You can also trim them all together in the end after piecing all units together.

Use your Template F to cut your pieces from the light blue fabric strip as shown in the picture.

Cut 16 pieces.

Block Finishing

Edyta's Tip: Keep your ruler or templates handy after cutting.

They are the perfect tool to help you precisely mark your sewing points.

Arrange all units as shown above.

Especially for this block, I highly recommend you watch our Block 8 video.

Position the smaller unit on top of the larger unit right sides together.

Pin and sew.

Press your seams open.

Place the small light blue piece over the unit right sides together.

Pin and sew.

Press your seam open. Use your template A or ruler to trim.

If you have not trimmed your bottom points, this would be the time to do it.

Pay attention that you stay 1/4" away from the diamond points.

16 Block 8s

Our Block 8s will be positioned as shown above in our Mystery Quilt 2022 grid.

Just a reminder, we will be making 8 identical grid sections like this.

Happy Quilting!

Edyta
